Student Hub

"The Nucleus"

A collaborative space curated to fit the requirements of both Students and Staff Members

Burtenshaw Scoufis were engaged by UNSW for the documentation and construction phase of the Student Hub Facilities based on concept design prepared by Geyer. The Student Hub was named “The Nucleus” to reflect the functions distributed around the central cluster of seating.

The UNSW Student Hub was to be a welcoming space, acting as the first point of contact between students and the university administration. The project consisted of the fit out of an existing library entry floor, providing Consultation Rooms and Pods, ID services and a back office. The space is to be open 24 hours for student access – acting out of hours as student study space. As a multifunctional facility, the space needs to be intuitive and flexible with potential for change over time, curated to fit the requirements of the students and staff. Natural design elements with landscaping features were utilised to develop a calming and neutral environment for which confidential and sensitive conversations make take place.
