UTS Proto Space

Tertiary experience and execution

An adaptive, intelligent space for use across multiple faculties.

The Proto Space is a joint venture between the Science, Design and Engineering Schools at the University of Technology, Sydney. BSA was commissioned to design and develop new teaching spaces, student lounge, meeting rooms and administrative offices and storage spaces for their Creative Industries Sector at the basement level of Building 7 on their Broadway Campus.

BSA has been involved with a large number of Engineering related fit outs at a number of tertiary Institutions and this allowed for a seamless integration of both design brief and technical specifications. This knowledge and experienced ensured the implementation of new style working environments that allowed for a variety of learning and teaching techniques including collaborative, quiet work and flexible breakout spaces.

The facility required space for inspiration, design resolution and production work, while also allowing for flexibility within a constantly evolving environment. The project focused on the interplay between interactive work areas and private space within an open working environment. Semi-private and quiet work areas were provided by creating “pod” spaces which are featured elements within the facility.
